Coffee Description

Orange Maceration Madness: Orange Nano is one of the most experimental coffees we’ve released. Whole coffee cherries are anaerobically fermented with freshly picked oranges grown directly on Finca Idealista, creating an intensely aromatic coffee with notes of jasmine, pineapple, and orange juice.

100% Arabica Coffee: A blend of Pacas, Caturra, and Catuai varieties grown at Finca Idealista in Matagalpa, Nicaragua.

Flavor First: This year's harvest used significantly more fresh oranges during fermentation, resulting in a striking floral character alongside bright tropical fruit and citrus. Expect a highly aromatic cup with jasmine florals, pineapple sweetness, and juicy orange citrus.

Extremely Limited: Orange Nano truly earns its name. Only 65 bags of this nanolot were produced, making it one of the smallest and most distinctive coffees we'll offer this season.

About This Coffee

Every year, thousands of oranges grow alongside the coffee at Finca Idealista. Instead of selling those oranges at the local market, producer Benjamin Weiner decided to explore what would happen if the farm's own fruit became part of the coffee's fermentation.

The result is Orange Nano.

Whole coffee cherries undergo a double anaerobic fermentation with freshly picked oranges from the farm for 148 hours. This harvest, Benjamin dramatically increased the amount of oranges used during maceration, pushing the experiment even further.

And something fascinating happened.

Benjamin believes the extra citric acid from the oranges may have suppressed one yeast strain while allowing another to thrive. While that's a hypothesis rather than a confirmed mechanism, the sensory result is unmistakable: an enormous jasmine-like floral aroma layered over tropical fruit and citrus.

The finished coffee is intensely aromatic and expressive, with notes reminiscent of jasmine, pineapple, and orange juice.

Only 65 bags were produced.

About The Process

Orange Nano begins with whole coffee cherries from Finca Idealista and fresh oranges harvested directly from the same farm.

Rather than simply adding orange flavor to finished coffee, the fruit becomes part of the coffee's fermentation environment. Whole cherries and oranges undergo a 148-hour carbonic maceration and double anaerobic fermentation, allowing the microorganisms, sugars, acids, and coffee fruit to interact throughout processing.

Following fermentation, the coffee is dried slowly for approximately 40 days on raised beds.

The process creates a coffee that is dramatically different from a traditional natural or washed lot: highly aromatic, fruit-driven, and distinctly floral.

This is not flavored coffee. No one adds anything to the coffee after roasting. Its unusual sensory profile is developed during fermentation at origin.
